The event attempts to present the techniques used to study culturally significant artefacts, highlighting the methodologies to be used to adequately characterise them from a physico-chemical point of view, to explore new strategies and materials for their restoration and conservation, and to support their critical interpretation by studying the artefact-environment interaction. The session will also focus on the assessment of the radiological risk to the community due to the natural radioactivity content of building materials often used in the construction of historical sites of cultural heritage importance. The topic of this event falls within the framework of the PRIN 2022 PNRR ATHENA (A novel approach Towards the management of building materials of particular Historical-artistic interest: assessment of the radon Exhalation and the radiological risk due to Natural radioActivity content) project, funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU.
