The Istituto per la Microelettronica e Microsistemi (IMM-CNR) has its headquarters in Catania (IMM HQ) and is organized in 5 units located in Agrate Brianza, Rome, Lecce, Messina and Catania.
IMM counts over 150 people as permanent staff (>60% Research Scientists) plus temporary staff including ~70 post-Docs and PhD students. IMM oversees the highly competitive sectors of microelectronics, microsystems and sensors. In IMM HQ there are over 30 permanent researchers and the same number of contracted researchers and technologists. They have physical, chemical, and engineering skills and the Institute's activities range from basic chemo-physical studies on materials to the design and manufacturing of microelectronic and multifunctional devices. IMM HQ is active in the field of high-power devices, innovative sensors for health, environment, and precision agriculture applications, and systems to produce and store energy from renewable
sources, as demonstrated by the participation in numerous research projects in the field, scientific publications, and patents. Finally, part of the IMM HQ laboratories is located within the two largest European industrial companies: STMicroelectronics and ENEL Green Power thus producing privileged collaborations with the industry. IMM researchers are internationally recognized, thanks to their significant scientific results and participation in national/international projects.
