Rome Technopole is the innovation ecosystem of Lazio Region, with a focus on the 3  strategic areas of the regional Smart Specialization Strategy: Energy Transition, Digital Transition and Health & Bio-Pharma. The Rome Technopole Foundation, established in 2022 within the framework of the Italian National Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PNRR)of Next generation EU programme, plays the role of hub of the Rome Technopole innovation ecosystem, bringing together a network of 51 partners, representative of all the main institutional, academic, and entrepreneurial entities in Lazio. This diverse ecosystem includes: i) 10 Universities of Lazio, which provide essential academic and scientific contributions for the development of skills and research, ii) 4 National Research Centers based in Lazio: CNR, ENEA, ISS, and INFN, providing outstanding scientific know-how, iii) 2 innovative SMEs active in technology transfer and implementation of cutting-edge solutions, iv) 19 large companies, leaders in their strategic sectors, supporting innovation and industrial development projects, v) 6 Local institutions, including the Lazio Region, the City of Rome, and the Chambers of Commerce of Lazio, ensuring institutional and territorial support.

After 3 years of programme, Rome Technopole developed tools and services to support innovation including all the involved topics, from education and training to technology transfer and research infrastructures.

Training and Education: Within the context of digital transformation and the evolution of educational models, the Rome Technopole Foundation promotes the adoption of innovative tools for skills recognition, such as the micro-credentials that represent digital certification of specific and verifiable skills with a strong job orientation, focused on emerging training needs arising from the industry and delivered through short training courses tailored with agile and flexible approach. Acquired micro-credentials are digitally certified by open badges, that describe the training experience, acquired skills, and the provider of the training.

Infrastructure as a Service: IR2Tech, Open Lab, and Joint Lab. Rome Technopole developed a platform composed of different research infrastructure networks open to users under the infrastructure-as-a-service model: IR2Tech, Open Labs and Joint Labs. IR2Tech (Research Infrastructures of Rome Technopole) is a network of laboratories and competence centers designed to support applied research, development, and technology validation, making infrastructures and advanced equipment accessible as a service to researchers, companies, and startups. Open Labs host co-designed activities among universities, research bodies, startups, and companies, enabling the testing and validation of ideas, technologies, and processes. Joint Labs are laboratories established between academic and industrial partners to develop common research and innovation projects on strategic topics, acting as operational hubs where scientific competencies meet to generate concrete solutions.

Technology Transfer. Rome Technopole supports and promotes the technology transfer from the research to the enterprise offering different services along the technology transfer process flow. Start-ups and spin-offs benefit from tailored acceleration (such as TECHNE), incubation (START-CUP), and support services for scaling up and commercialization. New entities in the medical sector can rely on the support of MedDviceLab  for development, validation, and certification of cutting-edge medical and healthcare devices, receiving assistance for the full pipeline from research and prototyping to clinical investigation and regulatory approval. BRICK provides a patent and IP management platforms to support researchers and startups in protecting and valorizing their innovations by offering services for patent filing, IP strategy development, and connecting innovations to business opportunities.
