At MDPI, we believe research should be open to everyone—and is more powerful when we work together. By partnering with universities, libraries, and academies worldwide, we remove barriers to publishing, simplify workflows, and expand the global reach of scientific research. In 2024, we strengthened ties with over 900 institutions and consortia, making Open Access more affordable.
With 68 new institutional partners added this year, MDPI continues to shape the future of Open Access publishing—ensuring research is widely seen, shared, and put into action. Beyond formal agreements, we prioritize open dialogue. Our Institutional Partnerships team engaged with institutions at 15 academic conferences, refining our approach based on real-world needs.
A standout milestone was our landmark agreement with ZB MED in Germany, covering 110 universities and research institutions. This partnership streamlines payment workflows and provides substantial APC discounts, making publishing more efficient for researchers. Alongside renewing key consortium agreements with Jisc (UK) and Bibsam (Sweden), we expanded our reach into Korea, China, and Romania, among other places, reinforcing our commitment to supporting institutions worldwide.
